Rationale
Personal Learning Planning is a life skill, important for individual development. Personal learning planning is built on the following concepts that empower learners to become increasingly self directed, self evaluative and responsible for their own learning.
Personal Learning Plan ( PLP)
A Personal Learning Plan is a document which provides an ongoing record of a pupil’s learning progress. It belongs to the child and will stay with them throughout their time at school. PLPs are individual to each pupil providing them with the opportunity to comment on key aspects of their lives in school and out.
Research shows that children learn best when they:
Understand clearly what they are trying to learn
Know what is expected of them
Are given feedback about the quality of their work
Are given advice about how to improve their work
Are involved in deciding what needs to be done next
Know who can help them if they need it.

Personal Learning Targets
Page 5
Through discussion at home help your child to set 4 personal targets for: Learning, Playing, Fitness and doing well in school. For younger children, parents can assist in writing the target.
Beside each target is a set of traffic lights which the children will use to assess their targets when they bring the PLP home in January and April.

This Plan will be sent home on a regular basis and each year it will be updated.
Please ensure that your child takes great care of the folder as it will be used in each class in the future.
